Interworld by Neil Gaiman.
This is a great book that is well paced for children. Gaiman has the great ability to paint colors and emotion with his vivid words. In this book, we follow a character that has no sense of direction and ends up shifting into other dimensions. This book is a lot like Coraline in that the characters are "the same" by their histories being faulty, but different with the use of more scientific thinking. The dimensions are based on the thought that every decision that we have made in our life stems a new dimension or timeline. This book is a wild ride with ripe colors and a very expressive imagination. I was thrilled to read it and I sure that the young and adult alike will feel the same.
