Book Signing with Joanna Giangardella and Barry Crowther

11/11/2011 5:00 pm

Joanna Giangardella, author of The Girl from the Tower and Barry Crowther, author of Missing: A Matt Speare mystery will be at Mathom House Books to sign their books.

Please come join us on Friday, November 11, from 5 pm – 7 pm. Both books will be on sale at the event. Mathom House Books is located at 83 Via Pico Plaza, San Clemente, 92672 right between Staples and 99¢ Only. Ph: 949-361-1633

About Barry Crowther and his novel, Missing:

Crowther, originally from Manchester, England, is currently a San Clemente resident who works as an Internet marketing consultant by day, moonlights as a mystery writer, and is a devoted student of jiu jitsu. His recent book is the story of a debt collector who is tasked to find the missing niece of a gangster. The series of events that follow takes him down blind alleys, into dark, evil places and uncovers parts of his life that he had thought were long forgotten. The book constantly surprises its reader and finishes with a rather unique twist at the end.

About Joanna Giangardella and her memoir, The Girl from the Tower:

Only ten years old and caught in the aftermath of the Greek Civil War, Joanna is placed into a special UN adoption program supported by Queen Frederica. For a child living on the barefoot island of Pergos, it seems to be a dream come true. America is the land of chocolate and walking dolls, after all, and she leaves her childhood behind to embark on a journey that changes her life forever. Her new American parents, a Russian-born monarch and a Bulgarian of high society, forbid her to speak Greek, force her to eat intolerable food, and confine her to her room. Joanna’s life becomes a nightmare as she longs for home but fears she has been abandoned and forgotten.

Book Signing with Dan Caldwell

08/05/2011 5:00 pm

Distinguished Professor of Political Science at Pepperdine University, Dan Caldwell, will be here to sign his new book: Vortex of Conflict: U.S. Policy Toward Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq.

On August 5th, 2011 from 5 pm to 7 pm, come and meet Dr. Caldwell and find out about the actions that led us into the war with Iraq and Afghanistan.

Vortex of Conflict is the first, accessible, one-volume resource for anyone who wishes to understand why and how the U.S. became involved in these two wars—and in the affairs of Pakistan—concurrently. It will stand as the comprehensive reference work for general readers seeking a road map to the conflicts, or students looking for analysis and elucidation of the relevant data, and for veterans and their families seeking to better understand their own experience.

The book will be available in the store for $25.95.

Interworld by Neil Gaiman.

This is a great book that is well paced for children. Gaiman has the great ability to paint colors and emotion with his vivid words. In this book, we follow a character that has no sense of direction and ends up shifting into other dimensions. This book is a lot like Coraline in that the characters are "the same" by their histories being faulty, but different with the use of more scientific thinking. The dimensions are based on the thought that every decision that we have made in our life stems a new dimension or timeline. This book is a wild ride with ripe colors and a very expressive imagination. I was thrilled to read it and I sure that the young and adult alike will feel the same.
